Wondering which website builder is better: Wix or Squarespace? In this video, I'll be sharing the similarities and differences between Wix and Squarespace so that you can decide for yourself which is the best website builder for you.

By the end of this video, you'll know exactly what are the pros and cons of using Wix vs Squarespace for ecommerce and for blogging, the price differences between both website platforms, and seven other factors that may influence your decision when choosing Squarespace vs Wix so that you can create a DIY website with peace of mind. If you're excited about this video, make sure you like this video, hit the subscribe button and the bell to be notified every time I post a new video, and with that said let's jump right in.

1. Price

Wix has two types of plans: website plans that are great for showcasing a professional site, and business and ecommerce plans which are essential for accepting online payments, and you can choose between four options within each one. The website plans range from $13 per month for the Combo plan up to $39 per month for the VIP plan, and the business and ecommerce plans range from $23 per month for the Business Basic plan up to custom pricing for the Enterprise plan.

With Wix, you can create a website for free, and get hundreds of templates, unlimited pages and top grade hosting free of charge. If you decide to upgrade to a premium plan, you can connect your own domain, remove Wix ads from your site and more. You can try a Wix premium plan for free as well, and if you decide it's not for you, you can cancel within 14 days and receive a full refund.

Squarespace has four pricing plans: Personal, Business, Basic Commerce, and Advanced Commerce, that range from $16 per month for the Personal plan up to $46 per month for the Advanced Commerce plan. If you decide to pay for your Squarespace plan annually instead of month to month, you can save up to 30%.

Although Squarespace doesn't offer a free website plan like Wix does, you can try out any of its premium plans for 14 days. They don’t collect your credit card until you’ve determined Squarespace is the right website builder for you.

2. Features

Both Wix and Squarespace offer core features every website needs, such as photo galleries, maps, contact forms, videos and buttons, to more complex features that help you develop your online presence, such as email marketing, mobile editing, online bookings and ecommerce. Both website builders also take care of hosting for you, so regarding features, you'll get the same general experience if you choose either platform.

3. Editor

Both Squarespace and Wix offer a drag-and-drop editor. However, with Wix you have total design freedom since you can move any element anywhere on your page in a way that's completely unrestricted, and with Squarespace's structured editor, you can only drag-and-drop elements into specific rows and columns. This lack of restriction in Wix may be a positive, unless you wish to change templates, which we'll be talking about in more detail in #4.

4. Templates

Squarespace and Wix offer a number of templates that you can choose from, that are organized into different categories, such as blogs and online stores, to make it easier for you to select a website template that fits your needs. There are both modern and classic templates that you can choose from, and all templates are mobile responsive.

One important thing to note is that once you select a template in Wix, and start editing your website with it, you can't go back and change it to another template without losing all of the work you've done due to Wix's unrestricted drag-and-drop editor. On the other hand, since Squarespace's editor is structured, you can change your template freely even after you've started creating your website without having to redo all of the work.

5. Ecommerce

Both Wix and Squarespace include ecommerce functionalities, though you will have to opt for a more advanced premium plan in order to sell your products and services. The two website builders' online stores include features such as digital products, custom email receipts, connect to print on demand services, point of sale system, Instagram shop tagging, automated cart recovery, and recurring payment products.

However, Squarespace includes a few extra features that Wix does not, such as gift cards, back in stock notifications and low stock notifications.

6. Blogging

You can create a blog in both Squarespace and Wix, though the Squarespace blog editor is a tad more advanced than the Wix one. On the whole, both website builders include all of the functions a blog needs, such as creating and scheduling blog posts, saving blog posts as drafts, adding tags and categories to blog posts, and editing the blog post's description and URL.

One of the main advantages of the Squarespace blog over the Wix blog, though, is that you can have collaborators with different roles, such as for content creation and comment moderation, which makes it a perfect solution for small teams, in addition to the option of having more than one author per post.

7. Support

Every Wix premium plan comes with 24/7 priority support, and you can contact them both by email and phone. When you upgrade to an even higher premium plan, you can also get VIP phone support and skip the line. All of Squarespace's plans also come with 24/7 customer support, and you can contact them both by email and instant chat.

Both website builders also have a help center, with forums, articles and tutorials, that help you when creating your website with step-by-step instructions and videos.

8. Apps & Widgets

Wix has an app market that allows you to add-on a number of extra features to your site in a number of different categories. There are both free and paid add-ons, as well as ones that are created by Wix and others that are created by third party developers. You can also use Corvid by Wix to create databases and customize your site's user experience even further.

With the Squarespace Extensions marketplace, you can add third-party extensions to help you manage, optimize and expand your Squarespace site, though most of these extensions, which aren't vast in number, are solely focused on ecommerce.

9. SEO

Both Wix and Squarespace include a number of features that make it easy to optimize your site for search, so you'll be in good hands independent of the website builder that you choose. These SEO features include page title, meta description, custom URLs, headings, image alt attributes, 301 redirects, SSL encryption, search engine instructions, and the options to add both Google Analytics and Google Search Console.
