Wix Forum Review: How To Build A Forum On Wix

To build a forum on Wix in your Wix website editor, click on add apps from the left-hand side panel. Click on the search bar and search for Wix Forum.

Once that option populates, click on it. With the Wix Forum, you're able to create communities, discuss, and drive traffic. Go ahead and click on add to site.

A popup will appear asking you how you would like your forum to look like. Pick a layout you like the best. You can change the design and customize all other settings any time.

You can either choose a list, a standard form look and feel with listed posts and categories, and a recent post feed on the front page. Cards for more visual content are laid out in cards. Engage your users with posts and images they can scroll through or with a social feed. Reactions, long previews, and infinite scroll turn your forum into a social feed for updates and discussions.

I'll go ahead and select cards and then click on add on the bottom right-hand side. Your Wix Forum will now be added to your Wix's website. As you can see from the popup, they're adding the finishing touches.

Once your Wix Forum has been added to your Wix website, you can then use these options from its individual panel to customize it. Under manage posts, you can view all of your existing Wix Forum posts.

When you place your cursor above one of these posts, you can then click on the three little dots on the right-hand side to edit the post, move the post, or delete the post. Up top, you're able to create a new post as well. So let's go ahead and click on that.

In order to create a new Wix Forum post, all you need to do is give this post a title and write your post in the space provided. You're able to add photos, videos, and more to get your message across. All you have to do is just begin typing or click on the plus icon that appears in the left side to add an image, add a video, add a file, add a divider, add an emoji, add a gif, add an expandable list, create a poll, or add a code snippet.

Once you're done creating your Wix Forum post, click on next on the top right-hand side. This is where you can choose where you'd like to publish this post, either under General discussion, questions and answers, or for staff only. I'll select General discussion and then click on publish.

Under the same post section, we can click on more actions to view moderation settings, where you can moderate posts for sensitive content, use smart spam protection, and moderate posts with certain words.

Also under more actions, you can click on Forum settings to use Spam protection with recaptcha, add a post limit for new members, save storage space by limiting the file size that members can upload to your Forum, add words you'd like to mark as spam comment containing spam words won't be published, add words you want hidden from posts and comments censored words will be replaced with asterisks, or disable posting where nobody can post including you, admins, moderators, and members doesn't apply to posts created with a Wix owner app or Spaces by Wix.

Additionally, under the more action settings, we can also click on analytics to understand how members engage with your forum and look for ways to boost your activity. These include top Forum posts, top Forum contributors, top Forum categories, and Forum activity over time.

If we head back to your forum and then click on categories, you can then customize your forum info. This includes the ability to customize your forum's name, the header shown when there's more than one category, and the Forum guidelines.

All you have to do is click on edit next to forum info and then enter the Forum name, the new post button, the Forum header header title, a description, whether you want to include a color or an image. If you select color, you can then select the background color, the opacity, and text color.

If you select image instead, you'll then be able to choose the header image overlay color, opacity, and text color and view what this will look like over here on the right as well as choose whether you'd like to show Forum guidelines, where you display rules or tips when members create a post. Once you're done customizing your forum info settings, make sure to click on Save.

Under the category section, you can view all of your available categories. In my case, I have three categories: General discussion, questions and answers, and staff only.

If you place your cursor above any of these categories, you can then click on edit to edit the category info, including the category name, new post button, header title, description, whether you want to show it as a color, including the background color, opacity, and text color, or image, including that image's overlay color, opacity, and text color, edit the categories SEO settings to make it more visible to search engines, and choose who can access this category, including everyone, only logged in members, or selected members, where you can then choose individual members or groups of members with roles, badges, or paid subscriptions.

If you wish, you can also monetize this category by offering members subscriptions to exclusive category content by setting up a pricing plan over here at the bottom. You can also display rules or tips when members create a post.

Heading back to the category section, you can then place your cursor above any of these existing categories and then click on the three little dots that appear on the right to edit the categories SEO settings or delete the Wix Forum category altogether. If you wish to add a new category to your Wix Forum, click on add category on the top right hand side just as before. Feel free to customize all of the settings we just went through.

Heading back to the category section, when you click on more actions up top, you can then access the form settings and analytics just as we had before under the posts category. Let's now x out of this Wix form dashboard to head back to what our forum looks like.

When you click on settings from the Wix forum's individual toolbar, you can then customize your Wix forum's look using the editor settings in this panel. From here, you're able to manage posts and categories from your dashboard just as we had done just now.

Additionally, you can click on layout on the left to change the appearance of the main page as well as of the post page. For the main page, you can select whether you wish to show the header or not, customize the header height as well as the header text alignment. For the post page, you can select the post page layout from the three available options, you can choose the card size, as well as whether you wish to show the header or not, select what the header height is, as well as the header text alignment.

Under display, you can then click on all forum to select whether you wish to display the forum's main page as a list of categories or list of posts. Select the post setting default, either recent activity, newest, most comments, most views, or most reactions. Choose what to display, a view counter, hashtags, social sharing icons, Pinterest save button, and badges, as well as whether you wish to include a login forum menu or not.

Heading back, if you click on posts, you can choose what to display under the post section. This includes image, video, file upload, gif, Emoji, code block, collapsible list, divider, HTML, or poll. Under post widgets, we can choose post sections to be displayed, including new posts or not.

Heading back once more, when we click on comments, we can then select whether you wish to show the comments header, including the comment count and sort, as well as the comments list, including the Avatar, publish date, and who was replied to.

When we click on design from the left-hand side panel, you can then click on navigation menu to customize your Wix form navigation menu. This includes the font and icon color, the background opacity and color, as well as the divider color.

Heading back, you can then click on text styles to select the navigation menu font style and size, the header text styles, including the title and description, in addition to the post text, including the post text color.

Heading back once more, we can then click on icons and buttons to select the button style, including the button text color, button opacity and color, corner radius, link, and hashtag color. In addition to the comment icon colors, including the pinned and closed comments color.

Heading back again, when we click on backgrounds and borders, you can then choose your Wix forum background, including the background opacity and color, in addition to the posts, categories, and sidebar background opacity and color, border color and opacity, and border width.

Under support from the left-hand side panel, you can contact Wix customer care and browse the support articles and find answers to your questions.

When you click on add-ons from the left-hand side panel, you can add Wix forum add-ons, including a recent post feed, by clicking on add to page. With this, you're able to display up to 30 posts from any category anywhere on your website.

From the Wix forum's individual toolbar, you can also click on stretch to select whether you wish to stretch your Wix forum to full width or not. Once you're done customizing your Wix forum, make sure to click on publish on the top right-hand side to make your changes active.
