How To Use Canva - Must Try Canva Tips and Tricks 2025

Canva recently redesigned its interface, so if you want to learn how to use Canva, as well as the best Canva tips and tricks, this tutorial is for you. Once you've logged into your Canva account, you'll be sent to the Canva homepage. From here, you can click on the search bar to search your content and Canva's. This way, you can search both Canva templates as well as all of your content.

Right underneath the search section, you can select one of Canva's pre-made designs. These include various options such as Instagram post, Pinterest pin, Instagram story, doc, whiteboard, presentation, social media video, print, and website. You can also create a design with a custom size, as well as click on upload to add your own media to Canva to customize.

When scrolling down this homepage, you will also be able to access your recent designs. You can click on the checkbox on the left-hand side to select that design and then move it to a folder or move it to trash. You can click on the star to pin that document, as well as click on the three little dots to add tags to your Canva design, open your Canva design in a new tab, make a copy, move it to a folder, download, share, copy link, or move it to trash. Still within your Canva homepage, you can click to invite people, see your starred documents, as well as your recent designs.

Now let's click on Projects on the left-hand side. From here, you can view all of the designs you've created in Canva. These include all of your designs, folders, designs, brand templates, images, and videos. If you wish, you can sort by owner, category (if you have them), date modified, sort by most relevant, newest edited, oldest edited, alphabetical (A to Z), or alphabetical (Z to A). You can view as a list or as a grid, as well as add a new document.

Under Templates from the left-hand side, you can view all of Canva's different templates that you can use to customize. You can view work kits, browse these templates by category, view templates inspired by your latest design, see upcoming events, options of templates you may like, as well as different options separated by post types such as Facebook posts, Instagram posts, Instagram stories, new in Canva, trending near you, curated by Canva, flyers, business cards, logos, whiteboard, cards, photo collages, docs, infographics, videos, mugs, carousel Instagram posts, and wraparound mugs. If we head back up top, you can also click on the search bar to search thousands of Canva templates that you can use.

Under Brand, which is a Canva Pro feature, you can access all of your brand templates, see and customize your brand kits, as well as access brand controls.

Under Apps, you can view a number of Canva apps that you can add to your workspace to further customize your designs.

Now let's open up an Instagram post, for instance, to view all of the different options on how you can use Canva within the Canva editor. Under Design, you can view a number of different Canva designs that you can customize based on templates and styles.

Under Elements, you can click to add recently used elements, shapes, graphics, the AI image generator, stickers, photos, videos, audio, charts, tables, frames, grids, mockups, 3D graphics, and collections to your Canva design.

Under Text, you can add a text box, access the Canva Magic Write feature, view your brand kit design styles, see recently used Canva text, as well as a number of font combinations that you can add.

Under Brand, you can access your brand templates as well as view your brand kit logos, colors, fonts, brand voice, photos, graphics, and icons.

Under Uploads, you can view all of the images, videos, and audio you’ve added to your Canva account, as well as upload new files from Facebook, Instagram, Dropbox, Google Photos, or Google Drive, or even record yourself to add a new audio file.

Under Draw, you can access different types of markers and styles that you can add to your Canva design.

Under Projects, you can see all of the other designs that you've created in Canva that you can add to this current Canva design you're working on.

Under Apps, you can search Canva apps, discover Canva apps, or even view your own apps you've added to your account to make designing your Canva design even easier.

Under Photos, you can add new photos to your Canva design. The same goes with videos, backgrounds, and charts.

Under Magic Media, you can create your own images, graphics, and videos within Canva, all using AI. Scrolling down, you can also see all the other apps you've added to your Canva editor.

If we click on Quick Actions all the way at the bottom, you can search for any quick action to add to your Canva design, view selection actions, as well as recommended actions, graphics that match your design, and even photos that match your design.

If we take a look at this panel up top, we can click on File to create a new design, import files, access settings (including show rulers and guides, add guides, show margins, show print bleed, hide comments, video playback quality, and language), access accessibility settings (including check design accessibility and reduce motion), save, move to a folder, make a copy, download, view version history, move to trash, find and replace text, open in the desktop app, as well as suggest improvements.

Under Resize, which is a Canva Pro feature, you can switch this Canva design to another size of your choice. You can either view suggested design sizes or browse by category.

Where it says Editing up top, you can switch your Canva design preview from editing (to make changes), commenting (to add feedback), or viewing (which is read-only).

If we click here on Share on the top right-hand side, you can then edit the people who have access to this Canva design, add a collaboration link, as well as click to download, view the public view link, print with Canva, share this Canva design with Instagram, make this Canva design a brand template, present this design, create a template link out of this design, as well as see more options. These include options to share the design, save the Canva design, share the Canva design on social, message this design, view other design types, as well as more options.

Over here on the bottom, you can click to view the Canva design notes, increase or decrease the page size, switch between the thumbnail view and scroll view, click to access the grid view, and then close the grid view, present the Canva design in full screen, as well as ask Canva if you need additional help. Just like with any Canva design, you can also click to add a page at the bottom, duplicate the page, or add another page to your Canva design.
