How to Add Subtitles to Videos for FREE [No Watermark 2025]

To add subtitles to videos for free, head over to your YouTube channel and upload a video like you normally would. If you don't know how to do that, make sure to watch my video on that topic; I'll leave the link to it in the description box below.

Once your video has been uploaded and processed, click on "Subtitles" from the left-hand side panel. Where it says "English (automatic)," place your cursor over where it says "Published" and then click on the pencil icon.

Now head over to ChatGPT, and where it says "Message ChatGPT," paste the following prompt: "Add punctuation and divide into paragraphs the following text. Don’t make changes to the text," and then add two quotation marks.

Within these two quotation marks, head back to YouTube, copy the automatic captions that YouTube provided you with, and paste those in the space provided within ChatGPT. Scroll up and make sure that there are no additional lines or spacing.

Once everything looks okay, click on "Enter" or "Return." ChatGPT will now provide you with subtitles for free. Let it do its thing, and it'll generate your subtitles automatically.

Once your subtitles have been generated for free with ChatGPT, copy all of them and paste them in a word processor of your choice. Make sure you read through these subtitles to guarantee that there are no typos or things that YouTube didn't understand correctly from the way you speak.

Once everything is okay, copy the subtitles that ChatGPT generated for free, head back to YouTube, and exit out of the pop-up where you copied the captions from. Then click on "Discard Changes."

Where it says "English (United States)" under "Video Language," click on the pencil icon, below where it says "Subtitles,". Click on "Auto-sync," and in the space provided, paste the subtitles that were generated for free, and then click on "Edit Timings."

As you can see, the subtitles will now be added to your YouTube video for free. To conclude, click on "Publish" on the top right-hand side.
