How to create a branded transparent overlay on an image (Pinterest pin). In this branding tutorial, you’ll discover how to create a branded transparent overlay on an image so that it fits in with your site and brand. You can use this to create a custom watermark, for branding and copyright protection, to create a custom branded watermark, and to create a colorful gradient overlay effect on your image.
First of all, if you don’t know where to find free stock photos, make sure to watch my video on how to find high quality free stock images by using the best royalty free stock photo website.
Sometimes you find a great stock photo, but then you want to take things a step further, and customize its color to fit in with your site and brand by adding a branded transparent overlay. Let me show you step-by-step how to do that.
Find a stock photo that you like, and download it to your computer. Again, if you don’t know where to find stock photos, make sure to watch my video on how to find high quality free stock images.
Now go to Pixlr Editor, click on 'open image from computer', and open the stock photo you downloaded.
Now click on the gradient tool in the left-hand side panel, which is this one over here.
Up top, in the toolbar at the top of your screen, next to where it says gradient, click the color box, and select the first patter on the first row.
Click on the little black square under the color gradient.
Edit the opacity to 80%, and click the color box next to where it says color to change the color so that it’s one that you chose for your brand. I’m going to use fcb900, and so will insert that next to the hashtag. Click ok.
Now repeat the same process by clicking on the little white square under the color gradient.
Again, edit the opacity to 80%, and click the color box next to where it says color to change the color so that it’s another one that you chose for your brand. I’m going to use 2e333b, and so will insert that next to the hashtag. Click ok.
Click the gradient color box again so that it's out of the way.
When you put your cursor on the screen now, you’ll notice that instead of seeing an arrow, you’ll see a cross.
Click and hold your cursor on one side of the screen, and drag and release it on the other side. You can do this from left to right, right to left, top to bottom, bottom to top, or diagonally. You will see that there is now a transition from the first color you chose to the second color you chose.
You can play around with different colors and percentages so your image looks the way you want.
Once you’re happy with the results, click on 'file', 'save', rename the image, increase the quality to 100%, and click ok to save your image with a branded transparent overlay to the folder of your liking.
