Website Creation Platform
The first thing you are going to need is to purchase a plan on a website creation platform. I use and recommend Wix (for more on this, check out Why I Chose Wix As My Website Creation Platform). Wix has five different plans that range from $4.50 to $24.50 per month when billed annually. For entrepreneurs and small business owners, the middle plan, called Unlimited, suffices. This costs $16 per month if you pay month by month, or $12.50 per month if you pay annually. Your website is probably going to be live for the long haul, so annual billing is best. The total cost per year for Wix is $150.
Domain Name
Having and connecting your own domain instead of using the free domain that Wix provides gives your website a more professional feel. I use GoDaddy for purchasing domains. The cost for this can range from just a couple of dollars to thousands of dollars if the domain you want has been previously purchased. On average, a domain costs $15 per year, so let’s use that as our final amount.

Custom E-Mail Address
When sending e-mails to your clients and subscribers, you will want an e-mail address that is customized to your business. Having one ending in @gmail.com not only is less professional, but is also blocked by numerous e-mail marketing service providers. As such, it is best you use G Suite to purchase your custom e-mail address. This costs a reasonable $5 per user per month, includes 30GB of cloud storage, and grants access to Google Docs, Drive and Calendar. Yearly, your custom e-mail address costs come out to $60.
E-Mail Marketing Service
Once you have created your own website, one of your main goals should be growing your e-mail list. To do this with ease, you will need an e-mail marketing service provider, which archives and sends automatic e-mails to your subscribers. With this you have two options: MailChimp or ConvertKit. MailChimp is free for the first 2000 subscribers while ConvertKit costs $29 per month for the first 1000. Although MailChimp is cheaper, ConvertKit offers numerous automation rules that are scalable in the long run. If you are on a budget, and given that you are just starting out I am going to assume that you are, let us choose MailChimp as your e-mail marketing service provider. No extra costs incurred for this one.
There you go! These are all the software and tech costs you will have when you are just starting out. Granted, you can select options that are cheaper, or even decide that other softwares, such as LeadPages for creating landing pages ($300 per year) and Buffer for scheduling social media ($10 for 100 posts), are necessary and non-negotiable. This will depend on your business’ needs.
By selecting the options above, what do the costs come out to? A completely manageable $225 per year. Your service charges for just one month should be sufficient to cover that.
